I loved the Canon PowerShot, so bought one for mom, so she'd move into the digital age.

Having finally decided that digital cameras aren't just some passing fad (okay, so maybe it had more to do with other things being a higher priority like a computer I could download the pictures to), I recently bought my first digital camera. There were...
Simple camera that takes great pictures while using AA batteries
Flash recharge slow
I'm happy with this camera and think I will be for a long time to come.

Ughhh.... digital camera turnover remains ridiculous. About every 6 months, just about every camera company completely revamps its model lineup. Canon has pretty much revamped its entire lineup even though most of the cameras weren't even a year old!...
DIGIC III, 4x optical, uses AA batteries, manual control, small size for features, bang-for-buck
Image quality slightly worse than SD800, Canon's movie mode files too bulky
The A570IS is another winner for Canon although has a few odd although minor shortcomings compared to the A710IS and SD800IS.

Mr_chelledun and I are veteran Canon camera purchasers, so although the last model died a bit sooner than we would have liked (probably repeatedly dropping it didnt help), we still eagerly signed on for Canon digital camera number four with the...
Pretty decent pictures, easy to use, medium weight.
Struggles with low light settings, fancy features don't seem to do much.

I bought the Canon PowerShot S200 sometime around 2001. Long enough ago, anyway, where I thought I was really cool to be getting a digital camera. Man, I loved that thing. It went with me everywhere for six years, and finally died a glorious death...
Image stabilization, simple photo options, good picture quality
Short battery life, on the bulky side
Both my digital cameras have been Canons, and both have delivered excellent picture quality and a great variety of functions, while remaining simple to use. Great basic camera.

As far as I can see Canon can do no wrong when it comes to easy to use digital cameras & my latest purchase, the A570IS (replacing my worn out Canon A80), is a case in point. Others may have the edge in one or two areas but when it comes down to overall...
Great value for money, everything you need, supremely well designed & laid out.
Noisy CCD at high ASA settings, so-so flash, no battery markings.
This camera is hard to beat, what little it lacks is overwhelmed by wonderful design & ease of use at an affordable price.

I wanted a camera/camcorder all in one. I first thought I'd buy a camcorder that took stills, but quickly realized to get halfway decent pictures, you need an HD camcorder ($1000). So, then I went the "camera that takes video" route and settled in on...
Versatile and feature rich.
Strong video modes.
Quality feel.
Includes a viewfinder.
Zooming blurs video.
Poor color balance on pics in "auto" mode.
With versatile video modes, viewfinder, rich feature set, easy to use controls and very attractive price point, this camera is ideal for both enthusiasts and soccer moms.
